The work of the Housatonic River Commission relies on the Housatonic River Management Plan. Our Management Plan provides the foundation and the focus for the Housatonic River Commission’s selection of projects and programs.
The Housatonic River Management Plan is a non-regulatory document reflecting a partnership in which local, state, and federal interests have come together to establish resource protection standards and identify key actions to promote the long-term preservation of the Housatonic River.
The plan identifies protection strategies that the various towns along the Housatonic have agreed are important to the river’s future. Upon designation in December 2022, the Housatonic River Commission underwent a process of updating their 2006 Management Plan to incorporate recent relevant statistics and trends and other information related to Wild and Scenic.
